...a better way to learn English.

Lorie has been teaching English professionally for the past 13 years. Her first teaching experience, however, happened while she was still an elementary student when she began teaching her Korean neighbor English. She knew then that she was destined to do this work.

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in English-Secondary Education and ESL, from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, and her Master's Degree in TESOL from the University of Birmingham in Birmingham, England .

She taught ESL at the high school and college levels in Virginia and Washington for four years, and taught for six and a half years in Yokosuka , Japan prior to opening The Learning Park.

She strongly believes in a student-centered learning approach in which flexibility and student needs are of the utmost importance. Teaching and learning is a two-way partnership. Lorie and her students work together to meet student language goals, whether they are in general English or English needed for a specific purpose. Classes are highly communicative, but have a strong base in the Lexical and Task-Based Learning approaches.
